Medina is an Arabic word generally used in Northern Africa to refer to the ancient parts of a city. These medinas are a living city with centuries of history, and are fascinating to explore by foot. *Three of Tunisia's medinas are UNESCO World Heritage Sites - They are the Tunis Medina, Sousse Medina and the entire city of Kairouan.

To say your "eye has developed" is an understatement, Celia. You are a different photographer today, far less descriptive and far more expressive. Your sense of design has alway supported your imagery, but your recent work in Singapore and Malaysia and hopefully China as well integrates that wonderful sense of design with thought provoking abstraction, incongruity, and human values. It is wonderful to see how our work together on pbase has influenced your vision. I also think that digital shooting in itself, with its instant feedback, has played a role in your rapid development as an expressive photographer. I will be counting on your help as I prepare for my own Tunisian visit come November, 2008.

Thank you Phil for leaving such wonderful comments here. It has always been my wish to inspire others to visit the places I have visited through my photography, and if I have done so here then I am simply thrilled and delighted. Five years on, I probably will not shoot the same way I did when I visited Tunisia last, as my eye has developed - thanks to your teachings on Pbase. It would be interesting to see how I would approach Tunisia now with different eyes. Anyway, I wish you & Tim a wonderful time in Tunisia. It's a feast for the senses!

Tim and I will be shooting in November in Tunis, Sousse and Kairouan. These images, which have lingered in my memory since you posted them three years ago, contributed heavily to my motivations in booking this trip. It will be fascinating to compare our approaches.

A large but brilliant gallery, Celia. You have expressed the color, movement, and exotic nature of this place, time and time again. Much of it is travelogue photography, as you said, but here and there have placed images that are quite thought-provoking, rich in incongruity, abstraction, and human values. There are two images in this gallery that I consider to be among the most substantive you have ever made -- A Roman Column and An Unknown Visitor. In those two images, you express the very soul of this place.
