Yes, Celia, always look for the light and consider its potential meaning. The subject is secondary. If this image will help you do that, as well as to remember to always wear shoes when shooting, it will be worth its weight in blood.

Thank you Phil for reminding me to look for the light, instead of chasing subjects to photograph. I made this image purely because of the effect of the light on the pine forest, and I'd like to dedicate this image to you. Even though 2 leeches grossly feasted on me (one on my toes and one on my calf) while I made this shot, I guess it was worth the blood donation! And I'll remember to wear shoes next time!

I get the feeling that the white hot sun is trying its best, but it struggling to shine its light on the floor of the forest. The most fascinating part of this image for me is the incongruity of the burned out blast of sun, playing against the very subtles soft light on the floor of the forest. The gnarly bark of the tree anchors the image on the left, giving us th image a sense of great depth. You really are a remarkable landscape photographer, Celia, and your willingness to allow leeches to suck your blood while making this image is a mark of your intensity of purpose. Next time, wear shoes.
