The Waiter

A cafe waiter looks at me intently, anxiously wondering if I was going to try the Tunisian tea. I am sure it was not everyday that he gets to serve an oriental woman at his cafe and watch her reaction as she takes her first sip! Tunisian tea comes in a very small glass, much like a shot glass, but packs a hell of a punch. It is brewed for hours with a tonne of sugar. The tannin and sweetness could kill you almost instantly!

You work in deep space here, Celia, to contrast near to far in terms of scale. This vantage point pulls the viewer into the image, and dares him or her to take a drink of this tea, while a somewhat haughty waiter stares us down in the background. Most of your images depend for their meaning on WHAT it is you are photographing. This image, however, creates meaning in terms of HOW and WHY you photograph it.
