I couldn't resist making this picture of El Jem's first amphitheatre juxtaposed against this modern Tunisian house built directly behind it. The incongruities here are amusing, to say the least : This small amphitheatre was a trial version that was built before the bigger one. Its sad and decrepit state appears even more so when compared to the new house behind it. What's even more sad is that, these ruins were obviously not regarded important enough to receive proper conservative protection and zoning, that anyone could build a house right next to it.
