Dougga is the largest Roman site in Tunisia. It was made a World Heritage site in 1997 and boasts some of the most most beautiful Roman ruins in North Africa. Dougga itself has experienced much change as it became home to different civilizations. The mosque with an orange dome, for example was built on the foundations of the Roman Temple of Fortune. Although Dougga is in ruins, what I wanted to capture here was the sense that whole thriving civilizations once existed in the plains here. I also wanted to convey a sense of sadness and despair over the loss of a great city.
