Exploring Sidi Bou Said by foot is the best way to tour the village. As the village is built on a hill, there are many passageways and stairways that weave up and down and around, taking you past many old & quaint houses. Not knowing what was around the next corner added to the excitement of the exploration. When I turned into this stairway, I was suddenly surprised to see this man dressed in modern clothes and talking on a cell phone, walking down the old cobblestone stairway. I was suddenly reminded that it was year 2003! Conservation may have preserved the buildings, but not necessarily the way of life!
