Jemaa Kedima which means the "old mosque" is the only surviving building in an abandoned village near Chenini. The leaning minaret is its most endearing feature, looking like a piece of play-doh that has been kneaded into shape by a young child. The idea that this innocently white, imperfect, child-like and unstable-looking piece of architecture represents the stronghold of the Islamic faith is very funny and amusing to me. Beneath it is an underground mosque and the tomb of a "marabout", or holy man.
