This ksar has been around since the 12th century and has been in use for hundreds of years until it was finally abandoned in 1973. One thing I noticed about Tunisians is that they find no reservations about adding rooms on top of existing buildings whenever there is a need, be it their homes or the ksour. At Ksar Mourabtine, this practice is quite evident. As needs for storage increased, they added more rooms on top of each other, as can be seen in the newer, plastered rooms emerging from the top of the older rooms below it.
