Marabout

Small domed structures that dot the Tunisian countryside, as in Chebika, usually mark the spot where a marabout, or holy man of the Islamic faith is buried. These marabout played an important role in spreading Islam to the Berbers.

I would call this shot "Our World Ends Here," Celia. Two small people, incongruously contrasted in scale to the vast threatening sky, mountains as arid as any on earth, a dirt path and a tomb. Your vantage point puts all of us on that path that leads to the tomb. Need I say any more? It is an image that is awesome in scale, speaks of the inevitability of death, and a merciless land. You organize this compellingly substantive image around a series of diagonals that radiate from the tomb and pull us inexorably towards it. It is the kind of image thats sticks in the mind and reminds us or our mortality at every turn.
