Thaipusam is a hindu festival celebrated by mostly tamil community. Thai stands for the month Jan/Feb., and, Pusam actually is the name of a star. the festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugam a Vel (spear)so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. It is an annual procession by hindu devotees seeking blessings, fulfiling vows, and, offerings thanks.
The devotees starts off in the early hours for a 4.5 km walk carrying milk pots, or kavadis, or even chariots. Some even pull a chariot while carrying a kavadi. Starts at SriSrinivasa Perumal Temple along Serangoon Road to Sri Thendayuthapani Temple on Tank Road. A WALK OF FAITH.
