Black & white sunset

Pineville, LA

My first attempt at a respectable B/W conversion (dunno if I made it or not... too flat?); EXIF data was lost in the conversion - sorry. :-)

UPDATE 20070827 - I think Rod is right on the far shoreline and sky (i.e., they're "inverted" as to their relative appropriate fg/bg values). I've toned down the sky ever so slightly and darkened the shoreline basically to a silhouette, both as they should be. The water is still just a bit brighter than the sky (which wouldn't happen), but I think that's important to the look of things here. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm also at odds over the contrast. I like it overall, but something seems wrong. I THINK it is the band of trees on the opposite shore that is too gray. Perhaps selectively darkening them would give it more snap without jacking up the contrast. Also, you might back down on the cloud highlights. Very interesting image.

my initial thought was it needs more contrast, but I'm not sure--it has a very homogenous almost silver look to it that makes it soft and soothing

I'd have to try for some more separation from those background trees. Might want to play with the color channels But this image is well worth the effort. I like the silvery water.

Maybe yes, a bit more contrast, but it has a nice simple relaxing soft feel to it..

It needs to contrast each other. I looks grey instead of Black and White. I like the photo.
