This past weekend my wife and I went to St Augustine with our camera club to visit the Alligator Farm. Located there is one of the most extraordinary wild bird rookeries in the state of Florida. The natural wetlands of the Alligator Swamp are home to about 100 American Alligators. The alligators provide protection to the wading bird from predators such as racoons, opossums, and snakes. As a result every year hundreds of wading bird arrive at the swamp to court and nest. The swamp has a raised boardwalk and this provides an outstanding platform for photographers to capture images of the birds as they court, build nests, mate and raise their young. I highly recommend this bird rookery to anyone interested to photographing wild birds. Spring time is the season to go.
