Skylar is a former first grader of mine now going into 7th grade. She snuck up behind me in the grocery store and hugged me. Didn't know I had my camera so I got her back. The picture is a bit fuzzy as I snapped it quickly in the store but I really like the way it turned out. Skylar and her two siblings who I have also had as students have an extremely sad home situation. They've been removed from their parents twice in the last five years. Currently back with their dad (who pulled a gun on their mother when Skylar was in my first grade). Anyway the kids all have such tender centers and have been survivors. She does well in school and I hope her teen years don't take this away. Amazing how resiliant kids can be.
ANYway, I played with the fill flash and back lighting thing because I wanted to show how "bright" this child is. Always has a smile and a kind word despite what she has experienced.
