I think this is very cool too. Tighter cropping would be better than a new lens unless you are loaded....in which case will you be my friend?? Just kidding. Also, I think you should see what it would look like to clone that branch out in the back ground. The bug is perfect! I love this picture :-) great capture!!

I love the moment you captured! I agree that the shallow depth of field is a bit distracting, one suggestion instead of purchasing expensive lenses: I would crop the image a bit more and see what that does for you. - Jill
Viewed in the original size, the bird is sharp enough. The very shallow dof is a bit distracting for me. You are at the far end of the lens. For shots like this, a longer, higher quality lens might work better, such as the Canon 100-400 L or the 70-200 2.8L with the 1.4x extension tube. But, we're talking serious money for either.
