Almost eight weeks after it was declared fully contained and out, there
was plenty of still-blackened grassland in the Davis Mountains of southwest
Texas from the Rock House Fire http://inciweb.org/incident/2166/).
At 314,444 acres, it was one of the largest (if not the largest) fires in Texas history.
During the blaze (April 9 - May 5, 2011), fire crews battled tree-height flames
swirling in canyons where 60 MPH winds gusted unpredictably, aided by 90F+
temperatures, thick dry grass and single-digit humidity.
However, it was encouraging to see green foliage already growing through the blackness,
and this with no rain since September 24th, 2010!
