Beautifully rendered b/w. (A much faster layout is the Dvorak keyboard...see Wikipedia)

The QWERTY key layout (which I realize this is one of) was created to make typing as slow as possible to prevent the keys from jamming. My point (apparently lost) was that this old typewriter is a classic example of why the QWERTY was created, in other words... never mind.

Great subject Al, I still have one of these. Reminds me of the Mills I trained on in Norfolk.

Great subject matter nicely captured!

I have one of these ... typists using them must have developed fingers of steel!
Guest 01-Apr-2009 05:47
I remember this. I always got my fingers stuck between the keys... Nice pic!

But, that IS a QWERTY keyboard Bruce. Look at the the upper row...

One can easily see why the QWERTY keyboard was invented. This baby was not designed for speed.
