Matthew Brady?
by Bruce Ward

My friend, Steve Green, pictured here, has an Ansco view camera with no lens. A trip to the hardware store for a piece of PVC and a magnifying glass solved that problem, sort of. Now he has a way to simulate the work of Matthew Brady while still living in the digital age. You shoot through the ground glass in the back of the camera. There is a DOF of an inch or two at this working distance, and the focus falls off very quickly away from the center of the glass. Here are some examples of shots with this setup: Ansco Camera.
