I'm sorry the tree's color is what it is. It was the light. What caught my eye and led me to take this picture was how red the light made the tree look. No saturation has been added. In fact, I desatured it a little while processing, which is why the grass isn't any more green that it looks. I shot this picture with automatic white balance, and on inspection, the color temperature was 6449, which is 51 less than the automatic "cloudy" setting. I backed off on what I normally would have done in routine processing. The most moderate curve made it even redder so I didn't apply it. I've looked at all the raw files that evening in four programs, Paint Shop Pro Photo X2, Digital Photo Professional 3.4, Raw Essentials and Raw Therapee, as well as in Irfanview and FastStone Image Viewer. I've done this on two different monitors, both of which are calibrated with Spyder2express 2.2. Particularly in DPP, the red reminds me of cherry popcycles.

To get this I processed in Photomatix with the default saturation setting reduced from by ten ticks or almost 25%, then in PSP I went from zero to -15. This makes the tree the color one might expect, and takes all the life out of the picture. If I had seen that scene, I would have walked right by it without giving it another thought.
