Chatsworth Fire Sept. 28, 2005...

The fire began about 2 pm, on the other side of the 118, Ronald Reagan Freeway.

I was not home at the time.. I saw the sky filled with smoke as I drove north on Topanga Canyon Boulevard (Chatsworth is a community in the NW portion of the San Fernando Valley, which is all a part of the City of Los Angeles).

The fire raged through the afternoon and today, 9/29, it is still hungry. The Firefighters are making a heroic effort and have saved many homes from it's appetite. Today it encompasses 17,000 acres and still going. Right now, at 10:40 am, it is 106 degrees with wind gusts.

The wind kept the fire, which was only a couple of blocks from my home, from coming towards us.. Thank you God.. It as spread south, all the way down to the 101 or Ventura Freeway.. In addition to huge and lovely equestrian estates and very nice homes in Bell Canyon, Hidden Hills and Lake Manor area, (all evacuated) there is much open land for the fire to consume.

May God Bless all of the personnel who are fighting such a determined battle against nature's fury. The helicopter pilots continued all through the darkness with their water dropping efforts... Until I finally fell asleep,I heard the beat of their blades and the sound of the sirens all around me.
