January 25 - 1:58 p.m.

This bird is a cedar waxwing. According to my bird book, these waxwings are rarely seen in winter on the BC coast. Today they were all clustered together, but kept flying away whenever I got too close. Apparently, these birds gorge on fruit or berries and when the berries ferment, the waxwings will show signs of tipsiness, flying erratically and flopping around on the ground.

Excellent shot Christina!
I do wish we had such fine birds here in this part of Asia but then again I'll need to have a good tele lens.... that means my Canon A80 wouldn't do...tsk...dream on.
Anyway, you have a good eye. Enjoyed your galleries very much. Thanks for sharing

They do come swooping in in big flocks. There is such an incredible color combination here and wonderful sharp detail. The limited DOF makes him seem like he's going to jump off the page.

Nicely captured. They sometimes come to UK as well, but not every winter, so very rare to see over here as well.
