Restoration of the historic Smith Mountain Fire Tower on
Lake Martin was completed in the Fall of 2012. The tower (80 feet high),
built in 1939, looms 780 feet above the water and is a landmark for
boaters. The hiking trails at the tower are a prime destination for
weekend hikers. A great loop trail runs about 6 miles from the parking
lot up to the tower, down along the lake shore and back to the parking lot..
