La Selva has over 70 bat species, which is an extremely high diversity for such a small area. This one was sleeping (until I woke it up) inside a gigantic hollow tree, along with several other visible bats, and probably dozens more whose wingbeats and high-pitched squeaks I could hear echoing around the cave-like interior.
