Appalachian Trail, NY-NJ with visits to Manhattan

We departed Anchorage on Sept 25, 2012, flew Alaska Airlines to Seattle then on to Newark. After a few days in Manhattan we took the Metro North Train from Grand Central to the Appalachian Trail wood platform train station. Over the next 19 days we hiked the 170 miles along the Appalachian Trail to Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania. We returned to Manhattan for a day then took the train again and hiked the other way 20 miles to Kent, Connecticut. We returned to Manhattan, then flew back from Newark to Seattle and on to Anchorage on October 24. The hiking and colors were great, the weather ranged from all-day rain to perfect fall weather.
