Brooks Range Alaska hike/kayak North Fork of the Koyukuk Summer 2006
Henry and I departed Wasilla in my Cessna 182 on Monday July 24, 2006, about 3.5 flight hrs to Bettles, over night there (camped on the ramp and eating Halibut at Spirit Lights Lodge), next day, load the gear into Brooks Range Aviation Beaver N1954J (built in 1954), flew up to Summit Lake on the arctic divide at the headwaters of the North Fork of the Koyukuk River in Gates of the Arctic National Park, our kayaks, extra food and river gear dropped at Red Star Lake by Larry the pilot on his way back to Bettles. We hiked five days, spent one day in the tent at Fishless Creek in an all-day rain storm and then kayaked five days down to Bettles, had a cheeseburger at the Bettles Lodge, loaded up 02J and headed back to Wasilla on August 4.
