Demb Flash Diffuser Pro

I always want to get a decent diffuser for flash photo. Recently, I accidentally discovered this product on the web. http://www.dembflashproducts.com/diffuser/

Convinced by the design, I ordered one and here are some simple test shots. Not bad for a single flash diffuser/reflector. Still need to have more practices to master this new member !

These test shots are converted from raw (with some brightness and WB adjustments if required) and resized and sharpened in Photoshop. Some of them are cropped to get better composition as well.

I've been a long time user of the flip-it and recently added the demb flash bracket and the pro front clear diffuser for my existing flip-it jr. You can check my pbase gallery for the results:http://pbase.com/onyx4 It is quite amazing and the flash bracket is very nice and comfortable to use. Once I added the bracket, it gave my photos that edge that I was missing. Plus now shadows against a wall show no more side shadows.

I just sent my order in on the recommendation of another photog. I've been using the Gary Fong Lightspheres, Photojournalist (with the chrome and amber domes) and now the Whaletail model diffusers, but found that their design has created all sorts of portability problems. I look forward to experimenting with the Demb pro diffuser and trying it out at the next wedding.

I just puchased some of these units (partially base on your excellent comments). Could you let me know what rubber bands you use with these units and perhaps where I can get them. Love that idea. Steve (skcskcskc@aol.com)

Anyone using multiple Demb products for portraits? I have a Demb Flash Diffuser and I'd like to explore the possibilities of using more units to take family portraits, i.e. trying to simulate a conventional studio lighting setup. Any experiences you have on this subject, would be warmly received. John

As a long time user of the 'Flipit' it is permanently attached to my SB800. To reduce the bulk slightly I have removed the velcro attachment band and the 'Flipit' is now attached by the use of a wide black rubber band, less bulk and neater looking and fits nicely into the flash case. The velcro band is now attached to the 'diffuser' and still allows quick fit/ detachment

This diffuser/ reflector is definately simple in design and brilliant in activity. I have every Lightsphere and even use bounce cards, but something always intrigues me to use the "Demb". The only down side I can say is its learning curve, whereas the Lightsphere you just set it on top the flash and shoot for the most part. With the Demb, you need to learn which positions work best. The best part is it fits every flash, stores easily, doesn't fall off and works great. Glad I came across this wonderful tool! By the way...the inventor, Joe Demb, is a very personable guy as well.

Hello from Cyprus, if you know where it is :) I ve been using flip it more than a year, I have Joe's all models. Everything looks much better and natural now. I love it.

I have been using the Demb system for well over a year. I have other lighting but consistently grab the flip-it and diffuser when walking out the door. Event photography is really enhanced with these units. Weddings just look better. And portraits with a single flash that look like multiple lights are a bit of a miracle. I think Lee's X-mas Princess photo here shows that. I have also used them with multiple flash units and it's so much easier to quickly set-up with stands. Stopped using the umbrellas as these seem to work better for a lot of what I do. I also have one of the new brackets and it too works well as an intergal part of a very versatile and fully adjustable lighting system.

I have been using the DFD Pro since its prototype days and really like the way it works, especially for close up portrait work. I also use it in conjunction with the FlipIt, also sold by Joe Demb to throw the bounced light a little farther. It is really an unbeatable combination, very portable (unlike some of the other diffuser products) and produces great light with an flash on camera or a bracket for even better directionality of the light. The more you use it, the more you will like it, and as you can see from your examples, it is very easy to learn how to work it to get great results.

caveman -- I bought the Demb flash diffuser after seeing these shots. I haven't tried it out yet . Is it fairly easy to use? As always, thanks for visiting my galleries. lpaf
