Enjoyed visiting your black and white gallery. I like how you added that selective touch of colour with the red X. Makes it really stand out and nice touch. the whites seem a bit burnded, and the red x a bit too centred for my taste :-) besides that absolutely aaa+ stuff - hope dies last! (vote)

Update: it seems like things might be getting back together here at Pbase , the little green men have fixed 6 of the red X's here. Don't know about the last 3, they might be horribly doomed to being red X's forever. THANKS to whom ever has started to fix the problem here. The world will be a happier place with Pbase running smoothly.

Ah, how creative!! Turned my frown into a smirk, for a moment. Such is life. I really love PBase and know it will be back soon. Well, maybe eventually. Meanwhile, I too am pondering the depth of meaning in the red x-'s... ("What the heck was this picture, anyway?!?") I am learning to dive in and type furiously in the few moments of clarity PBase encounters; feels like winning the lottery.

Is this still here? ;-) I had a dream about Dirk Diggler, thanks to your X's, Joseph Levy. It was creepy and there was a chainsaw! I blame you, Joseph Levy!!!!!! By the way, I heard all the Pbase problems will be fixed by tomorrow 12:30 EST. Tomorrow ALL Pbase Problems will be fixed! ALL PROBLEMS FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At that time a little green man decked in gold spandex will appear to sprinkle his love juice on the old servers...wait, aw man that's part of my diggler chainsaw dream. Love the infra-red shot (atalaya 3), you have used an interesting technique I have not seen before - such sharpness & depth is unbelievable, did you use a lot of post-processing? You manage to convey so much with so little - keep up the good work! Best wishes, Julian ;o)

A compelling gallery. Your technique is impecable and how clever to use different size photos to convey the same message. I hope some news agency doesn't get wind of it and the overload from visitors causes problems here at Pbase. Gets my vote. Hope it stays on top til Pbase is fixed. That ought to be about a year from now the way things are going.

Very nice gallery! A clear concept, expertly executed! My only nit would be that your composition skills seems to be a little lacking - maybe try placing the little X according to the rule of thirds? Otherwise, very sharp and contrasty pics, and very little noise in the blacks! ROFL If it weren't so sad... ROFL

I don't get it. In Mozilla Firefox your images look COMPLETELY different than in IE. In fact, I can't see any X's at all in Firefox. Is this a special feature of your camera, to have browser-specific images? Or did you do that in photoshop?

Well, I did not expect this much attention out of some red x or blurry ? or what have you. But I believe that everyone here really cares about PBASE and this gallery might be there way to vent about the recent unpleasantness. I was never mad about these problems, seeing as it only effects about .5% of my total images. Some people here have been more affected than others, some have not been effected at all. So people vent if you want, but remember there are bigger problems in this world, that make our XXX's and ???? seem really small.

Interesting. You have 27 galleries with 485 images that have been viewed 375,651 times. 9 of these images at apparently are not viewable for the time being. Yet it seems these images are what you base your complete feelings toward Pbase. Oddly off balance.

Hmmm... so Emily & Slug have made us their SLAVES! Hungry e-zombies armed with torches and pitchforks marching up the hill of Popular Galleries... It's what they call a 'victim of their own success'. But Pbase is our world, and we ARE their children, so that carries a degree of RESPONSIBILITY. You can't create a whole universe and then turn your back on it... Hang on, what does THAT remind me of? I like the red x's gives us all more time to have real lives! So get on it, people! 2005 ! there are only a total of 365 days, some have already passed...oh my god, people HURRY! Last year was Leap Year so an extra day but not this year...oh no!!!! * Thing is there are no red X's in your gallery only white "?" framed by tiny light blue...Kind of pretty actually ;-) But hey are you trying to pull a fast one on us all? :-))))))))) The red X is a myth, at least it is here in your gallery... very performance arty-farty of you, my friend! This is actually an ideal gallery. The photos load quickly, not a lot of distraction in each, the titles are catchy, and the shots themselves leave me wanting more (a lot, perhaps), but hey nothing is perfect. My only complaint, if I can call it that, is there seems to be a lot of duplicates here. However, in the end, this helps reinforce the solid message of the gallery. Keep up the good work.

Re/ the pathetically lame and INSUFFICIENT apology on Pbase home page: As I recall, the servers started playing up way before the Asian earthquake. Apart from the two tsunami galleries in Popular, where are all these others that are apparently slowing down Pbase? If they are really such a problem, why doesn't Slug create a separate area, as was the case with the American elections? Then we could all have a look and see if the photos are really worth all the broken thumbnails, links, lost comments and everything taking forever, if at all... I HAVEN'T LOST MY SENSE OF HUMOUR, I JUST FORGOT THE JOKE I WAS GOING TO MAKE SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN ALL THE ERROR MESSAGES. Great gallery Joseph. Long live the power of ridicule! Joseph, you have nailed the exposure on each and every one of these shots. Amazingly consistent, you would never know that these were taken at different times and locations. White balance, focus, contrast, all technically perfect. You have set the bar quite high for the rest of us!

Great Idea... I was thinking about the red Xs as a discrimination tough. We --the guys using firefox-- don´t see red Xs; we see little squares with three colors, that are not as good as the red Xs. After that I realize there is one thing better in IE than Firefox: Red Xs rule! It is all about the eye... Nice concept and gets my most sincere vote. Matias
