Muang Ngoi (sometimes known as Muang Ngoi Neua) is an isolated village, accessible only by boat, which has become popular with backpackers as a base for trekking and other outdoor activities. In fact these things can be arranged at Nong Khiaw, only an hour downriver, which is bigger and has more cafes, guesthouses and transport options.
