Winter Budget 2005

The City of Ottawa has decided to cut spending this year and one area was to reduce the amount of money spent on our snow removal.

According to one paper, some side streets will only get plowed if there is a snowfall of 7 cm or more. So you can have 35 cm of snow in one week but if it only falls in snowfalls of 6 cm or less at a time your streeet may not see the plow. The paper also states that the City are not using any salt for the roads or sidewalks in residential areas.

Between the cutbacks and the stupidity of drivers / people, the streets and sidewalks are getting very dangerous. Forget about watching for black ice we see ice everywhere!

Here are some photos of areas where the situation is becoming unacceptable!
