Howard, I'm glad you like it:) Old habits die hard, so I still do a lot of preparation in PhotoShop. Yes, it began with a photo. I masked out the background which was too strong, then lowered opacity to bring back some color. I used PS paint brushes on layers to redistrubute colors. A painting needs to be somewhat balanced, not just a big glob of one color. I used contrast to lighten enough so that I had a lot of white. I also paint in real media, and the white of the paper is important to me. I added a white border and softened the edge with a preset I made in Art History brushes.
Then I went to Painter and used watercolor and digital watercolor brushes in layers. I like to leave some sharp edges within the painting and also to make some "lost edges".
Then I brought it back to PS and added a sandstone texture.

Really, really like this. Did you start from a photo, using Clone at all, or just as a model? Is the white along the flower base from the canvas do did you paint with white? What paper did you use? Yes!
