Sentimental Journey

SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY

Sentimental Journey is a World War II B 17 G bomber. This plane is part of the Commemorative Ait Force Ghost Squadron. The CAF currently own two of the 17 remaining flyable B 17's.
Sentimental Journey came to Heber Utah with several other vintage war birds. For a fee you can go for a ride in this plane and some of the others. Among the fleet of planes the CAF has includes a B 29, two B17's, six B25's, three TBM 3 Avengers, three A-26 In vaders, a P-39, P-40, four P-51's and others.
Check out the Commemorative Air Force web site and be sure to attend a fly in near you.
Least we forget the roll that these planes and their brave crews played in maintaining out freedom. One thing to think about regarding the crew members of this plane. The gunner in the belly ball turret was pretty much confined to his position for the duration of the flight. He could not get out of it in a hurry in and emergency to bail out of the plane. If the hydrolics and or electrical components were disabled he was doomed to go down with the plane. Now that took real courage to do that job.
As Winston Churchill said: "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few".
Wisnston was at the time refering to the British fighter pilots who defended Britton from the Germans in WWII. I also think that the statement also applies to the crews of the planes of WWII and to all of the land soldiers who fought and died to maintain our freedom.
