In Memoriam

I memoriam Peter Giddings
1940 2019
Not many people outside the vintage racing community may know the name of Peter Giddings. In the Vintage racing world Peter is well known for his racing of various Alfa Romeos along with a number of other significant vintage cars.
I can not say that I was close to Peter and his wife Judy having only talked to them a couple of times. My first meeting with them was at Sonoma Raceway in the spring of 2016. The Giddings brought their 1931 Alfa Romeo Monza to the track. What caught my eye first was the Alfa of course but really their old motor home and the flat bed trailer to haul the Alfa. Open trailers were the way race cars were brought to the track in the days of old. I chatted briefly with Peter that day and then later both Peter and Judy came by my little Tear drop trailer just to see what it was like.
You could not miss the Giddings as they also had their dog with them. Lord Havoc was his name and he was a very large Great Dane. if you found Lord Havoc you found the Giddings. At one of the meets at Sonoma Peter had his Alfa in the garage where the CSRG dinner and party was going on. Peter and Judy and lord Havoc were sitting off to the side I asked Peter if it was alright if I sat in his Alfa and he just said sure. I managed to get somebody to take a photo of me in this lovely Grand Prix Alfa Romeo.
Peter was born in England on March 1940 and passed on Jan. 6, 2019.
His presence will be missed.
