Friday the 13 in this year of Covid19

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

November 13, 2020 Friday the 13th in this year of Covid 19.

O.M.G. where to start! Last Monday I attempted to do a simple plumbing repair. We had a dripping faucet in the kitchen sink, now I have done this repair before and I did not see any problem. Mistake number 1 was trying to just turn the water off at the sink instead of shutting of the entire water system. While I was under the sink turning off the water valve it broke off. Not just the handle but the entire handle assembly came off in my hands and shott water clear across the kitchen. We managed to get the water shut off properly and then spent ne next couple of hours with the good old shop vac cleaning up the water. I managed to go to Standard Plumbing and buy a new valve assembly and get it installed. Problem sort of solved except I still had to fix the drip. I gave up that day on fixing the drip.

It was not until evening that I noticed that water was coming out of the ceiling downstairs in the laundry area. Shop Vac time again. Buckets were placed under the drip and I punched holes in the celling sheetrock to direct the water to the buckets. Tuesday morning it was a mess downstairs, but the upstairs looked good. I decided it was time to call the Insurance Company. I was guessing that the repairs would be $1,000.00 to $1,500.00, Boy did I miss that estimate.
So far, they are still working on the tear out and other mitigation of damage. Asbestos was found in the original linoleum floor in the kitchen. The entire kitchen floor has been pulled up down to the sub floor. The lower kitchen cabinets must be replaced. The water also seeped clear to the living room and hall carpet. All of that is going to be replaced. We have had to get a 20-foot storage pod to store all our crap. It is nearly full.
The downstairs is gutted, and some water entered the bathroom in the basement.
This is where we stand right now both bathrooms are being worked on right now. They are temporally out of service. No kitchen sink, stove, dishwasher even the microwave is out in the pod.
So far, the estimate of damage will most likely exceed $10,000.00.
It has not been a good week and does not look particularly good for the next month or so. On a positive side none of my camera equipment was damaged. I also managed to make a quick jaunt to the Bountiful Pond for a couple of photos. Oh, I forgot were also had snow this week while we were trying to take some of our stuff to the Pod.
I am posting a photo of some grass that I saw when I was at the Pond.
