Army Ranger Joseph Metzger, 22, is a K9 trainer in the Army. He was in a grenade attack in Iraq about a month ago and has sustained multiple surgeries to remove shrapnel from his chest. He also has injuries to his hand and is unable to use it. When we asked his mom if she wants a big welcome home or a private one, her exact words were "we are lucky he's alive, so big is fine".
Welcome home, Joseph.
My friends at A Hero's Welcome and the Warriors' Watch were on hand to welcome Joseph home and escort him to the Jersey Shore. Please support the fine work of these incredible organizations!
Now that joe has been home for a few months and able to heal with his family. I realize as his mother how I was one of the lucky ones. Even though he has a long time to recover he is here with me. Can't thank everyone from all over the USA that made his homecoming so wonderful. I pray for the mothers of military that were not so fortunate.

I was unable to make it to the airport, but fortunately able to catch up to see him home. You did a great job capturing the emotion our family felt today. Thank you for the amazing photos. They really filled in the blanks for me- as to what I was unable to be there in person to see and feel for myself. Great work!
