On November 11 we took the Papallacta Pass through the Andes from West to East side. Along the way we stopped at a few locations, including one where we were lucky to see Andean Condors. Papallacta marked our highest point during the trip, at 4250m. We were blessed with good weather, mostly sunshine, and just a bit of fog. It was quite cold, and we were breathless in the rarefied air. We saw our main target bird, Rufous-bellied Seedsnipe, in short order, and enjoyed some of the most interesting flora of the trip.
