It took us two days to travel from Bharatpur to Nainital. We stay overnight at a beautiful old fort turned resort, Fort Unchagaon. We did little birding along the way, stopping at a few good roadside stops, including one wet area which was host to a number of species of waders and shorebirds. At the Holy Ganges River we got off the bus and walked across the bridge, giving us a chance to see a couple of new species of birds, and to observe the bustling activity at the river. We observed some funeral pyres on the shore, and witnessed a family strewing the ashes of their loved one into the water.
