Pindaya, peaceful and colourful fields with temples and stupas on the hills.
The famous caves are inside a limestone ridge and we use the elevator, instead of the 200 step stairway and from which we have a magnificient panoramic view, overlooking the lake. At the entrance is a large spider image, symbol of the the town : once upon a time, 7 princesses were bathing in the lake, but seeking shelter for a storm, they took refuge in the caves, where they were imprisoned by a giant spider. We do not know, if they were rescued by a prince. Inside the caves are 8000 Buddhas, made from teak, marble, lacquer, brick ...spread alover several chambers. Some of these are only accessible on knees and hands. There are also stalagmites, which we have struck to produce gong-tones.
