This snowy owl is living at the Waterloo Outlets in Waterloo, NY. The first time I saw her, she swooped down in front of me in an open, grassy area with a dry creek bed, as I was coming out of a store. I yelled snowy owl! No one else noticed. How anyone can miss this huge white bird, I don't know. No pictures taken that day. This is obviously not an enclosed mall. Stores encircle a large parking lot. The stores jog in at various intervals with a green space. This mall is along the NY Thruway. On the back side of the mall is a large, retention basin with muskrats and cattails. I went back the mall the next day and got shots of her sitting on one of the high lights. Next time I stopped , she was perched on a metal ball atop a tower. Now, everyone is watching her. My other shots of her are in my gallery on snowy owls. In this picture, she sat on the corner of one of the red towers along the Thruway. It was windy, and colder so she was somewhat protected from the elements. She has been seen flying the Thruway median after prey. She also flies across the Thruway to the rest stop on the other side. We worry about her safety when she does that. Don't know how long she'll stay at the mall. She's been there over a week now and is gathering many fans who come to see her. In this shot, she was watching a person walking below her. I came hoping for a flight shot, but she roosted there until dark.
