Temple of Zeus at Uzumcaburc. |
Imbriogon Mausoleums on the way to Uzuncaburc. |
Very nice lady knitting booties at Uzuncaburc. Who will get booties for Christmas? |
Each capitol from the Temple of Zeus had a unique design carved on it |
Another capitol from the Temple of Zeus |
I think this lion is sticking its tongue out at me. |
Three reclining bodies on a sarcophagus lid |
Is it coincidence that the lid had three people, and this sarcophagus has three faces? |
The Temple of Zeus at Uzumcaburc |
We got to enjoy beautiful fall colors around the ruins and village. |
Another view of the temple with fall colors. |
Another temple site at Uzumcaburc. I think this one is Tyche. |
Close-up of Tyche. We were lucky and only had a few drops of rain. |
The city has a large gate. In the foreground are grapevines, with a rustic farm house, and yes, two satellite dishes. |
Another temple. |
This is the caretaker's house. They collect entrace fees. We bought some hot tea and Bob got local raisins and sumac powder. |
Here's Bob with his raisins and powdered sumac he purchased from the lady on the left. |
Stone marker at Uzuncaburc--I have no idea what it says. |
This house shows off some typical Ottoman farmhouse. |
Ampitheater at Uzuncaburc. |
Hellinstic Tower at Uzuncaburc. |
Inside the tower |
Pushing up the marigolds. |
Tombs at the necropolis |
Tombs and grapefines |
This interesting tomb had it's own patio. It's the size of a small house |
Inside a tomb |
Inside another tomb |
This lady showed us how she could call her goats in from quite a distace. When she called, they came like a hungry Gabby cat! |
I think this goat was ready to butt our car out of its way, until the goat girl called it back. |
Goat herder with her goats |
This is a mile down the road at the city of Olba |
Olba has it's own necropolis and scatter tomb sites. |
To get to Olba, you had to pass through a gate that once stretched across the valley entrance. |
I don't think I've ever seen an ancient tomb in Turkey that hadn't been opened. |
Another tomb entrance at Olba |
I'd like to go back and hike the valley at Olba when I have more time. |
Bob in front of one of the more ornate tombs. It has columns carved in the rock above. |
Gabby, patiently waiting for us to return home. I think she's used to us disappearing on the weekends. |
