Sumela, Trabzon, The Black Sea, and Giresun

We got up, packed, and then went down to the retaurant for breakfast. Afterwards we walked up the road to a good vantage point to take a few more photographs of Sumela Monastery. Bob and I both smelled musk in the air, and soon we heard an odd, musical cacaphony. A large herd of sheeps and goats were being herded down to lower pastures. It was the largest herd I've seen here and it seemed to go on forever. Afterwards, Bob and I checked out and said our goodbye's to Mehmet. We got on our way and caught up with the herd again. Luckily they turned off on a side road and we were able to continue our journey. We had a pleasant trip through the valley into Trabzon. Once in Trabzon we were able to find our way to the market. We poked around a bit but didn't find much to keep us there long. We did enjoy watching the bakers make the famous Trabzon bread--customers would buy it up almost as soon as it slid out of the ovens. We bought some bread, hazelnuts, and dried figs and made our way on down the Black Sea coast. The closer we got to our stopover in Giresun, the more beautiful the coastline became. We hit Giresun at sunset and found a beautiful hotel on the water. We immediately went up to their rooftop restaurant and enjoyed the rest of the sunset over dinner. When the sun went down, the lights came out and the moonlight also shined very brightly on the water. Another beautiful day in a beautiful country.
