Mother Mary's House

Before visiting Ephesus, we made a trip up a winding road to the House of Virgin Mary. This is the location where it is believed that St Paul brought Mary to leave out her later years in peace. The setting is certainly idealic, near the top of a lush hill with several natural springs to provide water. Three of the springs are believed to provide heatlh, wealth and happiness if you drink from them. The Turks treat the site with great respect. Whether it is out of deferrence to people who believe Mary was the mother of God, or their own belief that Jesus was a great prohpet, I don't know, but it was one of the cleanest, quietest public places I've been to in Turkey.
