Arsemeia: Aug 2007

Arsemeia is at the foot of Mt Nemrut. It consisted of a large fortress and village founded in 80 BC by Mithridates I. His son Antiochus I (the guy that built the monument on Nemrut Dag) added to the fortress. The best parts were the wonderful reliefs. We had a slight climb to get to the top of the fortress, but it was nothing like going up to the top of Nemrut Dag.

Here they are again. No wonder Antiochus placed himself with the gods; his dad Mithridates put ideas of godliness in his head..

Here's Bob playing around in another hole. Our tour book said not to attempt the perilous stairs.

There's Bob, safe and sound. The Greek inscriptions around the tunnel describe the founding of Aremeia.
