Il libro racchiude immagini e fotografie di tutte le specie italiane con schede descrittive sull’anatomia, la biologia, l’habitat, il comportamento, la distribuzione ed il periodo di volo. Lo scopo è quello di permettere, attraverso l’osservazione diretta o con binocoli e macchine fotografiche, il riconoscimento sul campo delle diverse libellule e damigelle presenti sul territorio. I testi e le foto, indicanti i caratteri principali da osservare, forniscono all’utente uno strumento utile alla determinazione di tutti i maschi e in parte delle femmine senza procedere a catture. Si è evitato, inoltre, di appesantire il manuale con disegni anatomici troppo particolareggiati utili soltanto per la determinazione di esemplari prelevati dai luoghi di ritrovamento e osservati a forti ingrandimenti. A guidebook for the identification of dragonflies and damselflies. Very detailed and yet simple, it is suitable for both a public of beginners and those who desire to improve their knowledge of the Order of Odonates.
The book includes images and photographs of all the Italian species with chapters about their anatomy, biology, habitat, behaviour, distribution and period of flight. Aim of the book is to allow the identification of the various dragonflies and damselflies in the field through direct observation with binocular or cameras. The texts and photographs indicate the main characters to be observed, thus providing the user with a useful tool for the identification of all the males and part of the females, without capturing them. Also, overly detailed drawings of the anatomy were avoided not to overburden the manual with information that is useful only for identifying specimens removed from their location and observed under high magnification.
