Hello, I'm down on the coast in Phetchaburi province Thailand.
Frequently, when I go for an afternoon swim, small birds swoop down near me and touch the water, sometimes flapping their wings on the surface. They often come in pairs, close to where I'm swimming as though they're playing. They certainly don't seem to be aggressive. I've only seen them in flight, and save at the surface of the water are very skilled and fast. They do 'land' on a frangipani tree nearby.
There are two distinct birds, maybe male & female? The more frequent visitor is a small, beautifully olive green with flashes of red at the tips or through it's wings. Its friend, of similar size is dark blue with a white chest.
They seem closest to the sunbirds, but I only see them in flight, so it's difficult to compare with your catalog..... Any suggestions
