A shot in the dark.
These rather large bats started flying around in the evening. It was almost pitch dark but I had a go at it using a project-a-flash flash extender. I could barely see the bats in the viewfinder. Like faint shadows they flied around the trees and making very loud noise. Auto-focusing was out of the question and I set the focus manually against some branches about 20 meters away. Then I had to guess when the bat were about that distance and fire a shot. With the razor-thin DOF of a 500 f4, I soon realized that this was more or less impossible. All my shots was way off and just blurry blobs. But I fired one more and I got the most luckiest shot of all shots. Still I can't believe it! The pixel-gods really smiled at me there.
