439 - Coral-billed Ground Cuckoo

A secretive and charismatic bird of the forest which moves along the ground looking for food. When disturbed it runs off in amazing speed. Likes wet muddy areas and can be found only in south-east Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam).
Looks like something between a Coucal and a Malkoha and is quite large in size (length 69cm with the tail being 39cm). Just as the Malkohas and Coucals this Cuckoo in non-parasitic and build its nest up in the trees.

Seems to be not too uncommon in Khao Yai NP but difficult to see. We tried several times in the hides before finally it showed up. Very shy, slightest movement or sound and it runs off. A hide is recommended if you want to see or photograph it.
