2008-08-28 Bang Poo (afternoon)

We arrived at the pier at around lunchtime when the tide was low. Some early migrators had arrived and were seen out on the mudflat:

Greater Sand Plover
Pacific Golden Plovers (females in breeding suit)
Common Redshank
Whimbrel
Marsh Sandpiper
Black-winged Stilt (stationary)

Also some Whiskered Terns in breeding suit (some without) were flying around and a large flock was seen to the east. Several Little Herons and Pond Herons out on the mudflat and Collared Kingfishers were regulary flying out to catch crabs.

After having lunch at the pier we tried to get some flight shots of the birds flying around the pier. When the water moved in the Pacific Golden Plovers took off and we managed to snap some pix. The light though was not to good. However when the tide comes in later in the day this should be a good spot for fliers.

When the water moved in and all the birds was gone we moved to the watchtower close to the bird coloni (10 minutes walk through the mangrove forest). This time there were not many birds flying around the tower. Mostly some cormorants. The Black-crowned Night Herons which I was hoping to see was not flying around anymore.
The wind came from south and a lone Brahminy Kite was seen hanging on the upwinds from the mangrove forest out at the shoreside.
