::Windy Day 4::

Day 4 – This day can be best summed up with two words… wind and rain. Riding through North Dakota was an adventure. There was a wind advisory all day with the winds blowing from 25 to 50 miles an hour coming out of the northwest. I think I wore down the right side of my tires from leaning into the wind. The real joy came when you went under an underpass and the wind currents would abruptly change direction and then back. Then there were the really high gusts that wanted to twist your helmet off and lift you right off the bike. That, along with a constant rain for 300 miles. I have two pics from a rest stop which shows the fields across the road with a lake on it. North Dakota has received about 6 inches of rain within the last week and flooding of fields is a big problem.

The rain did eventually stop near the end of North Dakota and I was able to take some pictures of the Badlands in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The wind never did stop blowing and I was only averaging about 125 miles per tank and eventually make it into the big sky country, Montana.

Here is a personal note to all my fellow riders out there who may read this. NOTE: I will NOT wave to you while I am riding in a rain storm and the wind wants me to change lanes all the time even though I may not want to change lanes. No matter how much you wave, I will not wave back!
Well it’s off to the glaciers on Day 5 and maybe cross into Canada.

Total miles for day 4 were 490.
