Day 13 - Checking out Alaska

Well I got some sleep and am back at it again. I did finally grab a sandwich around noon when I filled up. I know I violated rule number one while traveling, Never eat on the road, but I needed to get something in me for the day. All worked out and no side effects were felt.

The cool air felt good going down the road. The misquotes are getting pretty nasty and find you when you stop but can't keep up with you at 60 mph. I guess the area is too big to up here to spray for them. It makes loading the bike in the morning frustrating. Sometimes I just can't stand it and just go when I am not really ready to ride and have to load the CD player while moving down the road.

Today I headed down route 3 toward Anchorage and had hopes of seeing Mt. McKinley along the way. But like other days it rained again and all the mountain tops were covered in low clouds. It was a nice ride through the hills although the temp did drop to around 35 to 40 in the rain. Lets here it for heated handgrips! It warmed back up to 60 once I got out of the rain and hit some dry ground.

There was more road construction and bumps to be had. I asked one flagman when the rain would end and he said in about 3 weeks it should dry up some. Oh well, just put the rain suit on every morning like always.

I did get some pictures of a few moose that crossed in front of me. I pulled over and was able to get the camera out and snap a few shots as they headed away.

Well I'll try to get some service on the Harley tomorrow. I need an oil change and I think I'll get a new back tire if they are not too busy to put one on. I can feel it slipping out on me and I saw the weather channel tonight and I may hit more rain when I head back.

Total miles for day 13 was 309 miles.
