The Ela Beach Site: This section of the school has its origins in the European School established in 1911. This school closed in 1942
and after the Second World War was re-established as the Ela Beach Primary ‘A’ School located near the main city centre of Port Moresby
and overlooking the tropical waters of the outer reef and the Coral Sea.

The Murray Site: This section of the school has its origins in the Murray Barracks primary ‘A’ School established in 1966.
The school was re-established on the current site (corner of Gabaka Street and Boroko Drive, Boroko – ten minutes drive
from the Ela Beach site) with new, purpose-built facilities in 1981.

By 1985, both schools were enrolling over five hundred pupils up to Grade six. Enrolments declined steadily through the
eighties and nineties. It became necessary to restructure all the IEA schools to accommodate the changing pattern of enrolment.

In 2000, these two leading international schools were amalgamated to become The Ela Murray International School.
