Paris.148.JPG

With Pierre, our "12th World Youth Day" (then youth!) coordinator when it was held in Paris, France back in 1997. Our 5-person delegate group
- "Les Aventuriers de Manille pour Jesu Cristo" - fondly called him 'tatang' (ask your friendly neighborhood Filipino what that means!)
and enjoyed getting his goat 'cause he seemed sooo uptight (...like your typical 'friendly' neighborhood Frenchman?) then! lol

Literally it means "father". So you were alluded to as being a Father 'hen' - a no-nonsense, stick-to-the-rule type. So yeees - you get the idea. And considering all those unpredictable youth delegates you had to control under your wing, you HAD to be, I suppose! :-)

Ok - just read your explanation and would understand the nickname as the title for some kind of commited keeper , isn t it?

Ha ha ha ... For those who have also been asking the same thing ... I remember the group (led by ringleader Ariel? :-) ) making life 'miserable' for you by unintentionally violating our schedule (remember the day when we sneaked out to Versailles and came in late for the sponsoring Parish's presentation?) and nearly being locked out (you wouldn't dare!) for missing our curfew on another night. And that after that you and your 'henchmen' slept next to our group in that auditorium as if to keep an eye on us from then on ....? lol

The other groups always seem to envy us 'cause we were daring enough to befriend you guys and make the most of our stay there by being everywhere and absorbing everything at once without violating our delegate responsibilities (Planning, man - it's all in the planning ... being able to understand and speak un peu français also helped! :-)

Oh, so by the way ... 'tatang' in Pinoyspeak may mean "respected older male" or "wise(?) old man", usually a traditional or more conservative older (notice the emphasis on 'old'?!!) person. Much like a knowledgeable fixed-in-his-ways grandfather, perhaps. Capisch? :-)

Hello ... I just visited your website. Glad to revive the whole story. What does "tatang" mean?
